TikTok Data for August 14 2026 Shows Pets Averaging 15 Million Views

A weekly sample of over 2,000 TikTok posts reveals that pet content leads in reach, while study videos achieve high engagement rates.

TikTok viewers are watching animal videos at a scale that exceeds other topics, with pets and animals averaging 15 million views per post across our weekly sample. This data comes from ContentScout, which is a platform that reads social data and turns it into content. Our team analyzed 2,192 public posts across 15 different niches for the week of August 14, 2026, to see which formats and topics actually reach audiences.

While pets led in raw views, the rest of the platform showed wide gaps in how viewers interact with different categories. Comedy and education videos generated high interaction rates, while technology and finance topics struggled to find broad appeal.

Pets and Animals Lead the Platform in Total Views

Pet videos had the highest average views in our study at 15 million per post. This category has a 12.58 percent median engagement rate across 81 sampled posts, which shows that audiences watch these videos and frequently click and share them. The most unusual finding in this category is the dominance of artificial intelligence tags on real animal videos. The hashtag #ai averaged 153 million views, which is significantly higher than standard animal tags like #cute at 94 million views. We do not have a clear reason for why creators are tagging real animal videos with AI terms, but the view counts remain high.

A dog running excitedly alongside its owner on a trail

This running video succeeded because the creator used the caption to head off potential criticisms from viewers before the comments started. By explaining that the dog gets to run off leash every day, the creator kept the discussion focused on the animal's high energy. Individual creators in this space are achieving massive total reach. The top account in the pets niche on TikTok reached 278 million total views during this period. The second and third most popular accounts reached 237 million views and 104 million views.

Food Content Drives Views But Struggles with Interaction

Food and recipe posts achieved 11 million average views across 79 sampled posts, which is the second-highest reach in our study. However, the median engagement rate for this category is 6.62 percent. This gap shows that while viewers watch recipe clips, they rarely leave comments or shares. To capture attention, creators rely heavily on sensory details. The hashtag #asmr led the category with 54 million average views, while #foodtiktok followed as a popular tag.

A close-up of a folded, crispy homemade crunchwrap being cut in half

This fast-paced cooking clip works because it groups multiple distinct comfort foods into a single short presentation. Viewers stay to see the completion of each item. Top creators in the category are pulling large numbers. The top account generated 134 million views, while others reached 67 million and 64 million views. Sound choices are highly uniform across these recipe posts on TikTok. A specific classical recording, Hungarian Dance No. 5, appeared in 3 separate posts in our sample, which is the same frequency as the most popular original audio clips.

Beauty and Skincare Rely on Transformation Formats

Beauty and skincare posts averaged 3.4 million views with a 10.13 percent median engagement rate across 163 sampled posts. The highest-performing tags in this category focus on visual changes. The hashtag #sameperson led the category with 105 million average views, while #makeuptransformation followed at 75 million views. These numbers show that audiences prefer to watch dramatic visual changes over simple routine instructions.

A creator applying foundation during a get-ready-with-me video

This makeup post succeeded by starting with an appealing, self-deprecating caption that protected the creator from criticism. This style of direct communication builds a quick connection with viewers. Looking at the beauty community on TikTok, the top creator reached 210 million total views, while the second and third most popular accounts reached 80 million and 39 million views. On the audio side, gentle ASMR tracks and slow R&B songs are the most common selections, with "Happy Skin ASMR" appearing in multiple posts.

Fitness and Wellness Content Is Dominated by Gym Humor

Fitness and wellness videos averaged 3.2 million views with a 9.59 percent median engagement rate across 165 sampled posts. While the category is theoretically about health, the most popular hashtags indicate that creators rely on humor to get views. The hashtag #sport led the category at 23 million average views, but prank-related tags like #pranks, #gympranks, and #gymprank each averaged 16 million views. This shows that standard workout routines get fewer views than humorous interactions inside the gym.

A close-up of a weightlifter preparing to lift a heavy barbell

This gym video succeeded because it focused on high-intensity training motivation rather than a complex tutorial. The visual of heavy weights captures attention immediately. The top creators in the fitness category on TikTok are generating large view counts. The leading creator reached 44 million total views, while others reached 42 million and 35 million views. Track choices are highly individual, with slowed-down electronic music and alternative tracks appearing across the sample.

Comedy and Skits Lead the Platform in Audience Engagement

Comedy posts averaged 2 million views across 165 sampled posts. While this is lower than the view counts for animals or food, comedy has the highest median engagement rate on the platform at 13.13 percent. This indicates that viewers are highly active when they find a post funny. The hashtag #relateable led the category at 13 million average views, while #memes followed at 11 million views. This pattern shows that comedy works best when it depicts ordinary, shared human experiences.

A person pretending to sleep under a blanket for a comedy sketch

This skit succeeded because it captured a highly specific sleep habit. Point-of-view videos of this type perform well because viewers see their own daily lives in the joke. Our list of comedy creators on TikTok shows that the creator of this post also led the niche in overall reach with 63 million views, followed by other creators at 31 million and 27 million views. Surprisingly, classical piano music by Chopin is a common audio choice here, appearing in 4 separate sampled posts.

Technology and AI Averages Are Distorted by Single Hits

The Tech and AI category averaged 2.3 million views across 165 sampled posts, but this number does not reflect the experience of most creators. The category has a low median engagement rate of 6.38 percent, which is the second-lowest in our study. Furthermore, a single massive viral hit skews the average for everyone else.

A person holding an iPhone with a cracked screen in front of a computer desk

This viral tech post succeeded by leaning into frustration and high-energy reactions rather than a dry tutorial. It uses emotional resonance to keep viewers engaged. Reusable audio tracks are rare in this niche, but some patterns exist. The track Hyperspace appeared in 2 posts, while slower instrumental music made up the rest of the tracked audio. For a detailed breakdown of these patterns, see the full list of technology videos on TikTok.

Study and Education Videos Retain Active Audiences

Educational posts averaged 1.4 million views across 158 sampled posts, but they generated a high median engagement rate of 12.90 percent. This is the second-highest interaction rate in our study, which shows that viewers are highly invested in learning content. The most successful educational formats utilize visual tracking elements to retain viewers.

A time-lapse of a student studying at a desk with a single lit candle next to notebooks

This study post succeeded by setting up a clear physical limit for the video. Viewers stay to see the candle burn down, which increases watch time. The high engagement rate shows that educational viewers are eager to comment and share their own study habits. You can find more details on this format in our list of educational accounts on TikTok.

Gaming Content Relies on Highly Specific Subcultures

Gaming posts averaged 1.4 million views with an 8.25 percent median engagement rate across 163 sampled posts. General tags do not perform as well as terms linked to specific titles or editing communities. The hashtag #gamelancer led the category at 15 million average views, while #valorant reached 4.9 million views. This indicates that gaming viewers prefer focused content over generic clips.

A custom desktop computer case with a transparent digital screen showing graphics

This PC building video succeeded by showing a physical modification to a computer case. This visual appeal attracts general viewers and hardware enthusiasts. Individual gaming creators are finding consistent audiences. The top creator in the gaming scene on TikTok reached 44 million total views, while others reached 30 million and 13 million views. Sound choices remain diverse, with holiday tracks and hip-hop beats appearing across the sample.

To make use of these patterns, look at your next video's hook and add a physical timer or visual constraint to increase watch time.
